PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Custom poshak prices: what to include when asking for a quote

A useful custom poshak quote begins with a clear description of the work. Instead of asking for the price of a photograph alone, explain the deity dress you need and which pieces should be included.

01 / PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Start with the pieces you want priced.

“How much is this poshak?” can mean a dress alone, a coordinated pair of outfits or a complete ensemble with accessories. Make a list of the garments you want: a skirt and blouse, dhoti, sleeves, scarf, turban cloth or additional coordinating fabric, as applicable to your deity and dressing practice.

For several deities, label the pieces needed for each one. Identify mukuts, malas and a backdrop separately, and say whether you want them included in the same enquiry. A clear scope makes it easier to understand what the quoted amount covers. Explore our custom poshak service as a starting point.

02 / PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Include size and a useful design reference.

Share labelled photographs of the deity and measurements with units. Overall height alone may not explain the garment proportions, so mention the dimensions you already have and ask which additional measurements are needed. Our deity dress measurement guide helps you organise those details.

Choose one or two reference photographs and describe the part you like: the colour, border, garment shape or amount of embroidery. Ask for a quote for the agreed interpretation. A photograph can show a coordinated display with pieces that are outside the dress enquiry.

03 / PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Explain the fabric and embroidery you have in mind.

Ashok Mukut Wala’s custom dress service includes choices such as silk, satin and cotton, with zari, sequins and beads. Discuss the actual fabric and decorative materials proposed for your design. The look of a reference photograph does not establish its fabric composition or the materials used in a metallic detail.

Describe whether you prefer a defined border, scattered motifs or more extensive decoration. Read our guide to zari, sequins and beads if you are choosing between finishes. When comparing options, keep the garment list and measurements the same so you can understand the design differences.

04 / PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Mention existing accessories and your priorities.

If you already have a mukut, mala or backdrop, send photographs and state that these pieces will be reused. Explain which colours or details the new poshak should complement. This keeps existing pieces from being mistaken for items you want made.

You can share a budget if you wish, alongside the details that matter most to you. For example, identify whether your priority is a particular fabric, an embroidered border or coordinating several outfits. Ask which choices can be discussed within that brief, then confirm the scope of any revised proposal.

05 / PLANNING YOUR POSHAK

Review the quote and the timing together.

Name the occasion and the date by which the attire is needed. Ask the maker to confirm the available schedule and the practical arrangements for receiving the finished pieces. Sharing a date begins that discussion; it does not confirm a completion date.

  • Which garments and accessories are included?
  • Which measurements, fabric and embroidery details does the quote use?
  • What is the quoted total, and are any additional charges applicable?
  • What payment terms and timing are being proposed?
  • If a design detail changes, should the quote be revised?

Bring these answers together before confirming the work. Use the custom deity dress enquiry form to share your brief and begin the conversation.

If your enquiry includes a crown, mala or backdrop, the complete ensemble guide helps separate new pieces from items you already have.
